There is a whole new journey ahead of us. It’s filled with excitement, hope, and reassurance.
Today, we own all the sunshine that fills the sky. Tomorrow; we look forward to the ever reliable, southern breeze.
Now that the mast repairs are fully underway and nearing an end, things do look more promising. For a good while, I lost my faith in that old thing. The thought of a plank splitting or coming loose is no longer occupying my mind. Contemplations of the newly working mechanical details and my steady perceptions cause doubts to dissipate. As the atmosphere sops up those dimming clouds—sailing through the skies; I become more hopeful and also know that we too—will sail again.

Spring 2023
This past Spring, we spent many long hours repairing the mast. Thanks to Christian Chaves, of Rhode Island Yacht Carpentry the hard work of rebuilding the mast is almost complete.
Early spring, he took notes and measurements of the presently damaged mast. Then noted a slight crack about 10 feet down from the top. So, the decision was made to rebuild the upper part of 16 feet. Peter and Christian removed the stays and all the rigging, to prepare it for the rebuild.
Christian purchased the spruce. Then he cut off the top 16 feet, milled, and shaped a new mast. From that point, he glued up the two halves and cut scarfs in them. His saw horses were level as he completed gluing and varnishing the mast.
Peter continues to rework the hardware and stays. He refocuses each time on the finer details. We hope to launch her soon. Tune in for Part II that will feature Tabasco’s final stages of her mast reconstruction.
