The repairs are fully underway and we’re nearly ready to launch…
…And we just can’t wait to be sailing.
It has taken months on end, but the mast repairs are nearing completion. The fore-stay, back-stay, jib, and main hazards, along with the topping lift; has been rebuilt—right up to the entire top of the mast!
We then turned out the mast with a dozen coats of varnish, and covered the upper spreaders and jumpers with bright layers of white paint. Then we mounted the blocks to hold and steady the stays. After the rigging was re-accessed some alterations were made.
We fashioned new bronze plates to both sides of the mast. Then we placed a silicon bronze bolt right thru it—from side-to-side. Larger turn-buckles were used to tune the stays at the top; where they pass through the spreaders. The jumper stays were refinished with traditional styled-cables. Afterward, a sheathing hole was cut. While we tuned the upper part of the mast the sheath was set in place. Finally, we positioned the main halyard. So, she’s now ready to launch.
